Side Lot Closed During Construction

Before: Potholes to puddles

The School of Imagination Parking Lot Expansion project will create a brand-new paved parking area while introducing advanced lighting, landscaping, and security enhancements. These upgrades not only improve access for our teams and families but also bolster the safety and security of our facility. Furthermore, this project paves the way for potential future facility enhancements and expansion plans.

FAQ

What is happening to the side gravel lot?

The side gravel lot will undergo construction to become a paved parking lot with lighting.

How long will it take?

Construction will begin Monday, September 18, and is expected to end on October 31

What area is affected?

Only the gravel parking lot on the side of our facility site. The main parking lot in front of our facility is not affected; however, parking will be much more limited.

What can we expect?

Minor excavation of the streetscape on Dublin Blvd. starts on Thursday, September 14. The side lot will be inaccessible after September 15. New storm drains will be installed, followed by grading, paving, lighting, and landscaping.

How are we addressing the temporary loss of parking?

We have multiple permits for this project, one of which allows the use of the Donlon Park Staging Area, just a 3-minute walk across the street. Plenty of parking is available at this site. The Donlon Park Staging Area has benches and restrooms, is well-lit and is monitored by security cameras.

What about parents waiting for their children?

Since parking in front of the school is limited, we encourage parents to wait at Donlon Park Staging Area after-drop-off.

Why is this happening?

Our facility was custom-built in 2011 and needs modernization and upgrades to provide the best experience for our team, families, and children. Creating this paved parking lot is required for future facility improvements.

How is this funded?

Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty secured the initial funding in 2019, but the project faced delays due to COVID-19 and increased agency regulations. Fortunately, Dublin's current Mayor, Melissa Hernandez, led the charge to complete the project in 2022, in partnership with former Dublin Mayor and current Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert.
