Ted Kaye, Ph.D. (Board of Directors)

Ted Kaye has been Chief Executive Officer of the Las Positas College Foundation since September 2004. He is the day-to-day manager of the organization’s efforts to build community awareness of the College and to advance its vision for the future through active resource development. Prior to his current position, Dr. Kaye was Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity, San Francisco and Interim Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer of Beyond Shelter, a non-profit dedicated to fighting family homelessness in Los Angeles.

Prior to “sector shifting” into non-profits in 2003, Dr. Kaye worked in the television production field for 25 years where he specialized in the business economics of that industry. After completing his Ph.D. at UCLA in 1975, Ted worked at several companies in Los Angeles, New York and Orlando. Most recently, he spent 15 years at the Walt Disney Company rising to the rank of Senior Vice President of Television Production. In that position he was in charge of production, planning and cost control for network television movies, series, pilots and specials.

Dr. Kaye’s involvement in community and philanthropic activities has included memberships on the Boards of the Civic Theater of Central Florida and WMFE-TV/FM in Florida, the Pasadena Pops Orchestra in California, the National Center on Family Homelessness in Massachusetts and the Tri-Valley’s TV30, AXIS Community Health and the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Pleasanton North and is on the Board of the Network of California Community College Foundations where he serves as Vice President, Investment Committee member and Co-Chair of the Marketing Committee. In addition he is a member of the Livermore Valley Film Commission and the Community Advisory Boards of the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Foundation and the Pedrozzi Scholarship Foundation. He has acted as an advisor to several university-level film programs and been a member of a Governor’s Trade Mission to France.

For Ted, the most rewarding aspect of being a part of the school’s board is seeing the SOI staff interact with the children. There is such mutual respect, love, kindness and interest in learning & growth from all involved. From Charlene to Hope and all in-between, the reward comes from seeing the obvious respect and joy flowing to and from the children to and from the ‘big people’ with whom they interact.

In his spare time, Ted enjoys being with, loving and playing with his 7 and 11 year-old grandchildren, traveling and reading for learning, growth and just the joy of it.
